Often the Pack Leader is misunderstood as they tend to
"lord over" the other dogs, eat first, go through doors first, lead the
pack on the hunt (the walk), discipline and guide the dogs and give
instruction; earning their
respect and trust. The leader comes and goes unannounced, is not overly
demonstrative of affection but leads with authority, courage and calm,
assertive energy. These traits may seem unnecessary to humans, however, it is
the role of the lead dog in a pack situation. They express their
dominance in these and other ways and in so doing give security and
fulfillment to every dog in the pack. Each dog has their place. There
is one leader (in the case of human leaders, the entire family is pack
leader), the rest of the pack are followers. Leadership is constantly being challenged so the
leader must be alert; always observing body language and energy within
the pack. Without a calm, assertive, watchful and respected leader a
group of dogs can be very insecure and display their lack of guidance in
unbalanced behavior.
Kam, is our retired girl that leads the dogs
Kami has earned her high and respected position among our dogs.
If this pack didn't have human pack leaders, Kami would be the leader in
the wild and is regarded as top dog among the canines. I call her our Resident Assistant (RA). She is loving and
fair to her pack mates, constantly is monitoring their behavior and
helps us by keeping the troops in line. She tends the group with loving care and dearly loves all the
babies born here. Kami
has been spayed and retired from breeding but continues to serve our
family well with her keen sense of pack organization and her endless
supply of love for her beloved pack members and family.

“Thistledown’s Spirit Song”
Katalina Rose is
like a Rare Flower

Koza, our quiet beauty, at 2 years old
Spirit Song, "Katalina Rose," is our female
Coton de Tulear
Koza, as we call her, is truly a rare rose. She has
nearly perfect conformation as well as a thick, luxurious coat. Our
beautiful Spirit Song has a unique, peaceful presence about her.
She is full of play, curious, independent, sensitive and highly
intelligent; truly a remarkable and very quiet personality. Koza
is not demanding, nor is she presumptuous – she seems to quietly appear
out of nowhere like a cat. Although she loves people and especially
children, she also enjoys time alone to explore and make up new games. Koza is a dearly loved and respected pack member.

Kasper "Kappella" is our male
Coton de Tulear
Kap is such a happy, sweet, gentle boy. He is
deeply loved by all the dogs, loves peace and harmony and is extremely
polite. He is understated and meek in his demeanor, fearless and
courageous in his outlook. He enjoys vocalizing in his deep voice
and loves to play and chase. He has had less exposure to children
than the other dogs but loves kids and shows this whenever they come to
visit, showing his adaptability to his environment. He has a beautiful,
extremely soft, thick coat, charming personality and we are very proud
to have him as a member of our family.

crazy games with rules and nutty action in the area reserved for our
